| I
offer a personal guiding service. For your safety and comfort,
the maximum number fishing in one boat is two anglers. Additional
boats can be arranged for larger parties. For river or hill
lough trips, I operate a ratio of one guide to a maximum of
four anglers. Let me know your requirements and I will tailor
a package to suit. Prices are based on an 8-hour day.
Substantial additional hours will be charged on a pro-rata
basis.
My
basic rates for 2005 are as follows:
Guided
Boat Trip (salmon or trout) – up to two anglers,
per day €160
Guided
River/Hill Lough Trip – up to four anglers, per
angler €45 (min 110)
Brown
trout fishing is free. For salmon fishing a State Licence
is required. You can buy this on-line via the Central Fisheries
Board web site, or I can arrange it when you arrive. In
addition, some waters require a permit. Such charges are
in addition to the guiding fees quoted above.
The
prices quoted include:
- Provision
of life jackets and other safety equipment
- Provision
of flies, lures, bait etc.
- Basic hot drink and sandwich lunch
Not
included are:
- Gratuities
- Travel time to venues more than one hour away
- Any licences or permits required
- Deluxe lunches (hot meal, drinks)
- Tackle hire (this can be arranged)
- Accommodation
- Personal drinks
- Airport transfers
Packages
I offer a variety of packages with optional accommodation which
aim to offer the visiting angler the best the region has to
give.
The World Cup The World Cup Fly Fishing Competition is held
annually on Lough Mask. Up to 700 anglers fish in four heats
in an attempt to qualify for the final, held on the first Monday
in August. The atmosphere in competition HQ, the town of Ballinrobe,
is tremendous, as old friendships are renewed and news ones
forged – usually over a few pints of Guinness! If you’re only
going to fish one competition, this is the one. Give yourself
the best chance by having a couple of practice days before your
heat. Hopefully you’ll qualify, but whether you do or not, take
the opportunity to fish the West’s other Great Loughs, Carra,
Conn and Corrib.
A typical package would be:
Mon: Arrive
Tue & Wed: Practice days on Mask
Thur: Heat
Fri/Sat/Sun: Fish other loughs
Mon: The Final!
This package has limited availability and is subject to obtaining
entry to the World Cup. Details on request. The 2005 event will
run from 28th July, with the final on Monday 1st August.
The Duckfly
The Duckfly (a large chironomid) season runs from roughly St
Patrick’s Day (17th March) to mid April, depending on the weather.
Packages are available for 2, 3, 5 or 7 days duckfly fishing
on Conn/Mask.
The Mayfly
When it’s good, it’s great! And don’t let anyone tell you it’s
easy. You may have a better chance of catching the bigger trout,
especially fishing the Spent Gnat, but they don’t get big by
being stupid! Still, it’s a great time to be out on the lakes
and if you do get it right, you’ll have a day to remember. Packages
are available for 2,3,5 or 7 days mayfly fishing on Conn/Carra/Mask.
The Great Western Loughs
Four of the world’s premier wild brown trout fisheries in four
days. Fish Conn, Carra, Mask and Corrib. Tactics will depend
on the season and conditions. Options to extend your trip, either
by having more time on your favourite lough or taking in some
salmon fishing on the Moy or having a go at the river trout.
Instruction
. Never fished lough style? Don’t worry! As a qualified
game angling instructor I can help with everything from basic
casting skills to specialised techniques.
· Want to introduce a child, partner of friend to fly
fishing? Let me teach them the basic skills to catch their first
fish – while you’re concentrating on catching a bigger one!
Clubs, businesses etc
For your club outing or business trip I can tailor a package
to meet your requirements. From a one-day Casting Instruction/Beginners
Fishing event to a week’s intensive fishing, I can organise
it.
English for Business (and Fishing!)
As well as an angling guide, I’m also a qualified English language
trainer and used to be a business executive. I offer packages
combining business-oriented English teaching with fishing. Classroom
sessions provide the foundations, while the more informal setting
of the lake or river gives you the opportunity to practise in
a more relaxed environment (and to learn language the books
don’t teach!)
If none of these appeal to you, don’t worry. I would also be
happy to put together a personalised package of angling to suit
your needs. For example, why not spend a day or two trout fishing
on the lough, try for a salmon on the Moy, have a go for pike
and then pollack or sea trout? Tell me how much time you have
and let me make some suggestions.
