For anglers bringing the family, or simply wanting to combine their fishing with sampling some of our other attractions, the West offers a wide variety of alternatives.

Walking:

Mayo offers a wonderful variety of short walks, hill walks and way-marked trails.   These include the Western Way, the Foxford Way and the Bangor Trail.   Castlebar hosts an annual four-day walking festival, while Croagh Patrick presents a challenge to the very best of walkers.   The last Sunday in July sees the traditional pilgrimage, when many thousands make the ascent.

Golf Courses:

Mayo offers a wide range of beautiful golf courses where visitors are welcomed.

Horse Riding:

This popular amenity gives visitors the chance to explore some of Mayo’s most spectacular scenery, including beaches and uplands.

Music-Pubs:

Pubs are an integral part of Irish life, one which the visitor is encouraged to sample to the full.   Whether you want the latest fishing information or just a quiet pint of Guinness in a congenial atmosphere, there’s sure to be a pub to suit your taste.

Beaches:

Mayo boasts many of Ireland’s “Blue Flag” beaches, where visitors will find surprisingly uncrowded sands.

Sport:

Mayo is a county that takes its sport seriously.   The atmosphere when a Gaelic football match involving the county team is being played has to be experienced to be believed!

Other Facilities:

Mayo caters for the visitor with all the facilities you would expect.   Check out the links for details of other attractions in the area.
