My name
is David Dinsmore. I have been fishing these waters for
over ten years, since I first came to Mask to fish in the
famous World Cup competition. Originally from the North
of Ireland, my wife and I moved to Mayo in 2002 after many
years living and working in the UK and overseas.
I am
a qualified guide, holding the National Angling Guide Certificate.
To achieve this I was trained and assessed in first aid,
boat handling, safety, entomology, angling methods and all
other aspects of guiding. I have also had plenty of experience
as a client of many guides over the years and in my business
I seek to replicate their good points and avoid the bad.
I aim to provide the visiting angler with a unique experience
and the opportunity to catch wild fish in spectacular surroundings.
I speak enough French and German to hold a reasonable conversation.
I operate a 19ft Burke’s “Angler’s Fancy”
– a boat designed for these lakes. Floor-mounted armchair-style
seats allow you to fish in comfort and safety. I carry all
the necessary safety equipment, as prescribed by the Department
of the Marine (with whom my boat is registered), and am fully
insured to take clients out on the lakes.
“The
Irish gillie helps to make Irish angling what it is. He
is essential to visitors fishing the lake; and even a local
angler who ‘knows every rock in the lake’ will enjoy his day
more if he has with him a gillie whom he likes and who likes
him.”
